Bio

Jennifer Butler Ellis, Ph.D., joined the NIU faculty in 2011, and has worked with graduate students in nationally ranked Accounting programs for the last 15 years. She has served as the director of two, endowed professional development centers, and specializes in training students to hone their critical thinking and communication skills. Over the last 20 years, Ellis has taught courses in developing effective business communication skills, judgment and decision-making, leadership, professional development skills, public speaking, and small group and interpersonal communication. In 2013, Jennifer was honored by the American Institute of CPA’s for innovation in graduate teaching.

Her research includes: delivering effective feedback, memorable messages and influence, and individual/organizational psychological contracts. Some of her work has been published in Communication Monographs, Communication Research, Management Communication Quarterly, and Communication Quarterly. She received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2001. In her spare time, Ellis is an avid reader who enjoys reading historical fiction. She recently published the children’s book Channel Your Inner Super Star, which explores facing and overcoming adversity.
